Position Purpose:
Telecommunications Technical Specialists develop, monitor and carry out technical support functions for telecommunications networks and install computer equipment, computer systems and microwave, telemetry, multiplexing, satellite and other radio and electromagnetic wave communication systems.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
√ Install, maintain, repair and upgrade fiber optic telecommunications networks, including internal and external fiber optic cable infrastructure for residential and commercial customers.
√ Perform fiber optic cable splicing, termination and connector fabrication using specialized telecommunications equipment and industry-approved techniques.
√ Configure, integrate and activate telecommunications network services and customer access infrastructure, including FTTN to FTTP and FTTC to FTTP network upgrades.
√ Conduct telecommunications testing using PON power meters, light sources and other specialized diagnostic equipment to verify network performance and service quality.
√ Diagnose, troubleshoot and rectify telecommunications network faults, service interruptions and performance issues, ensuring timely restoration of services.
√ Monitor and assess network performance, identifying defects, malfunctions and opportunities for network optimization and improvement.
√ Provide technical support and advice to customers and internal stakeholders regarding telecommunications services, installations, upgrades and fault resolutions.
√ Maintain accurate records of installations, testing results, maintenance activities, network configurations, equipment inventories and completed work orders.
√ Prepare and maintain documentation relating to telecommunications procedures, quality standards, compliance requirements and operational activities.
√ Assist in planning and developing customer telecommunications access infrastructure and implementing network expansion and upgrade projects.
√ Liaise with suppliers, service providers, contractors and relevant stakeholders to coordinate installations, repairs, maintenance activities and project requirements.
√ Perform onsite and field-based telecommunications work across various customer locations while ensuring minimal disruption to services.
√ Ensure all telecommunications work comply with NBN Co requirements, Australian telecommunications standards, company policies and workplace health and safety regulations.
√ Support ongoing operational activities by identifying, analyzing and resolving telecommunications network faults, defects and service performance issues.
Key Skills and Requirements:
√ Experience in fiber optic cable installation, splicing, termination and testing.
√ Strong knowledge of NBN technologies, including FTTP, FTTN and FTTC networks.
√ Ability to diagnose, troubleshoot and resolve telecommunications network faults.
√ Proficiency in using fibre testing equipment, including PON power meters and light sources.
√ Experience in network upgrades, service activations and restoration works.
√ Understanding of NBN Co standards, telecommunications regulations and WHS requirements.
√ Ability to maintain accurate technical records, reports and service documentation.
√ Strong communication and customer service skills.
√ Ability to work independently across multiple field-based locations.
√ Relevant qualification in Telecommunications, Electronics, Information Technology or a related discipline, or equivalent industry experience.
Qualification Requirements
√ Diploma or higher qualification in Business, Supply Chain, or related field (or equivalent experience).
