Key Duties & Responsibilities

Fabricate, assemble, and repair sheet metal components using cutting, shaping, and forming tools.

Interpret drawings, blueprints, and specifications to determine job and material requirements.

Cut, drill, bend, and shape metal materials such as stainless steel, galvanised iron, and mild steel using hand and power tools.

Mark out metal stock using templates, measuring instruments, and reference points.

Shape and form metal components using folding machines, bending machines, rollers, and presses.

Fit and assemble sheet metal components into final products using welding, riveting, brazing, and fastening techniques.

Finish fabricated products by polishing, filing, sanding, and cleaning assembled components.

Inspect finished components to ensure accuracy and quality against specifications.

Repair damaged sheet metal products and components.

Operate workshop equipment such as shears, guillotines, drills, grinders, and bending machines safely.

Prepare materials and metal stock for fabrication tasks.

Maintain tools and equipment in safe working condition.

Follow workplace health and safety procedures, including correct use of PPE.

Employment Requirements

Minimum one years of experience as a Metal Fabricator.

Experience working with structural and sheet metals in fabrication environments.

Knowledge of Australian Standards, legislation, regulations, and terminology, relevant to Metal Fabricator.

Understanding of Australian workplace health and safety standards.

Strong problem-solving and mechanical aptitude.

Experience in industrial sheet metal fabrication for electrical enclosures, working with mild/galvanized steel in a manufacturing environment is preferable.

Qualification Requirements

Certificate III in Engineering (Fabrication Trade) or equivalent qualification.

Certificate IV in Engineering is preferable.
