Position Overview

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Fitter to join our fabrication team. The role primarily involves fabrication, fitting, and installation of structural steel components for commercial and industrial projects, along with assembly and modification of metal structures to meet project specifications.

The successful candidate will ensure all work is completed to a high standard of quality and safety while supporting the efficient delivery of fabrication and manufacturing projects.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  Interpret engineering drawings, shop drawings, and technical specifications to determine fitting, assembly, and installation requirements for structural steel components.

  Assemble, fit, and install structural steel elements such as beams, columns, frames, and brackets, ensuring accurate alignment, positioning, and structural integrity.

  Perform marking out, cutting, drilling, and machining of steel components to required dimensions using hand tools, power tools, and fabrication equipment.

  Align, level, and adjust structural steel components and assemblies to meet specified
tolerances and ensure correct fit during fabrication and installation.

  Carry out pre-assembly and trial fitting of structural steel components in the workshop to verify dimensional accuracy prior to site erection.

√  Perform on-site fitting, alignment, and modifications to ensure proper integration and connection of structural steel members during erection.

  Inspect fitted and assembled structural components to ensure compliance with project specifications, quality standards, and tolerances.

  Identify and rectify misalignments, fitting issues, and assembly defects to ensure correct fit and structural performance.

  Assist in the erection and positioning of structural steel frameworks using lifting equipment such as cranes, hoists, and rigging gear.

√  Carry out minor repairs, adjustments, and rework of structural steel components as required during fabrication and installation stages.

  Work collaboratively with welders, riggers, and site teams to support efficient and safe fabrication, fitting, and erection processes.

  Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas to ensure safe and efficient operation.

√  Follow workplace health and safety procedures, including Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS), during fabrication and installation activities.

Employment Requirements

  Relevant trade qualification in Mechanical Fitting, Engineering, Fabrication, or a related field.

  Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications.

  Experience in assembling, fitting, maintaining, and repairing machinery, equipment, and fabricated metal components.

  Proficiency in using hand tools, power tools, workshop machinery, and precision measuring instruments.

√  Strong commitment to workplace health and safety, with excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills.

  Minimum of 8-9 years of recent and relevant experience as a Fitter, Metal Fitter, or in a similar role within a fabrication, manufacturing, or engineering environment.

Qualification Requirements

Certificate III in Engineering – Mechanical Trade is a must require.

Relevant vocational training or apprenticeship in mechanical fitting, metal fitting, or engineering is preferable.
