Position Overview

The company is seeking a qualified Painting Trades Worker with formal training and hands-on experience in residential and commercial projects, capable of delivering high-quality finishes aligned with specifications.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

Preparing and treating surfaces of residential and commercial buildings by cleaning, sanding, scraping, and removing old paint, coatings, and debris to ensure surfaces are suitable for finishing works.

Repairing and preparing surfaces by filling cracks, holes, and imperfections, and carrying out minor patching, sealing, and caulking to achieve smooth and even finishes prior to painting.

Applying primers, sealers, and undercoats to a variety of surfaces to enhance paint adhesion, durability, and overall finish quality in accordance with construction standards.

Selecting, mixing, and matching paints, varnishes, stains, and coatings to achieve specified colours, textures, and finishes based on project specifications and client requirements.

Applying paints, stains, varnishes, lacquers, and protective coatings to interior and exterior surfaces including walls, ceilings, doors, trims, and structural elements using brushes, rollers, and spray equipment.

Operating airless and HVLP spray equipment to deliver efficient and high-quality finishes across large surfaces and complex construction areas.

Applying waterproofing and protective coatings to external structures and surfaces exposed to environmental conditions to ensure long-term durability and compliance with building requirements.

Erecting and dismantling ladders, scaffolding, and access equipment safely, and installing protective coverings to safeguard surrounding surfaces during painting activities.

Interpreting and following construction drawings, work instructions, and specifications to determine surface preparation requirements, materials, and appropriate application methods.

Coordinating with site supervisors, project managers, subcontractors, and clients to ensure painting works are completed in line with project schedules and quality expectations.
Operating, maintaining, and cleaning painting tools and equipment in accordance with manufacturer guidelines and workplace safety standards.

Maintaining a clean, organised, and safe work environment by following Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) regulations and proper handling of hazardous materials and coatings.

Monitoring material usage, estimating quantities, and minimising wastage to support efficient and cost-effective project delivery.

Inspecting completed painting works to ensure compliance with company quality standards, project specifications, and client expectations, and undertaking touch-ups where required.

Assisting in supervising and guiding junior painters and labourers by providing instruction on surface preparation techniques, application methods, and safe work practices.

Mandatory Skills, Experience & Qualifications

Certificate III in Painting and Decorating
Certificate IV in Building and Construction (preferred)

Experience:

1–2 years experience in construction painting

Skills:

Advanced surface preparation and finishing techniques.

Extensive experience using airless and HVLP spray equipment.

Ability to apply epoxy coatings, waterproofing systems, and protective finishes.

Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.

Strong understanding of paint materials, colour matching, and application methods.

Proven ability to supervise and guide junior painters.

Experience working at heights using scaffolding and access equipment.

Strong focus on quality, productivity, and minimising material wastage.
